Don Bakke reports on the latest Southern California User Group Meeting.

The Southern California Revelation User's Group ended its second year by inviting Mike Ruane, President of Revelation Software, to come and provide a company update and give a preview of the upcoming OpenInsight v7.1. Sixteen consultants, developers, end users were on-hand at SRP Computer Solutions new company headquarters for the event.

SRP President, Don Bakke, opened the meeting with a brief review of the purpose of SoCalRUG and then introduced Mike Ruane. Mike provided the attendees with a review of the progress Revelation Software continues to make using new technology and supporting new operating systems. There was mutual excitement regarding OpenInsight for Linux (OIL) and the prospect of being able to develop in Windows and leverage the entire application in Linux.

Mike went on to demonstrate a pre-beta version of OpenInsight 7.1. Over 40 major enhancements were highlighted, which included support for FTP/Sockets, additional features for the edit table, a new native tab control for forms, more control over report layouts, Avery label support, new document tools for forms and menus, and the introduction of TCL.

Everyone on hand was very impressed and appreciative that many of these changes seemed to be oriented toward making it easier to develop with OpenInsight. Mike responded, "We're developers too!" Which again underscores why Revelation Software has been thriving under the leadership of Mike Ruane.
